Presenters
Mike Anderson, P.Eng., LEED AP, Purpose Building
Mike has over 16 years of mechanical engineering and design experience. With a passion for energy efficient buildings and sustainable design, Mike has led the design of innovative retail, commercial and mission critical facilities, including RBC WaterPark Place, Toronto’s first LEED Platinum Core and Shell certified commercial tower. He has also managed energy simulations and sustainable design assessment for a wide variety of projects.
He Joined Purpose in 2022 to focus his design and project management experience towards portfolio planning, asset level strategy, and delivering zero carbon existing building renewal projects.
Mike feels that day-to-day action and practical design solutions can drive the change we need to secure a better more resilient future.
David MacMillan, City of Toronto
David is a Manager with the City of Toronto’s Environment & Climate Division, where he has focused on planning for low-carbon development and energy systems for nearly 10 years. He works closely with internal partners and the development industry to achieve net zero emissions buildings. Currently he is focused on delivering mass timber affordable housing and planning for large-scale renewable thermal energy projects. David holds a Master in Environmental Studies (Planning), from York University and is a graduate of the ULI Toronto's Curtner Urban Leadership Program.
Devon Stopps, City of Toronto
Devon is a Senior Engineer in the City of Toronto’s Environment, Climate and Forestry Division, with a long history of work in the decarbonization and energy efficiency space, as well as broad experience in business management, finance, and software systems engineering. Devon’s work at the City is focused on the development of mandatory requirements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from existing buildings and leads initiatives such as the energy and water reporting by-law & support programs. To support the transition of buildings to net zero by 2040, the Devon’s broader team provides retrofit guidance and financing programs shown at Toronto.ca/bbp
Michelle Xuereb, BDP Quadrangle
Over her 25-year architectural career, Michelle has dedicated herself to the intersection of sustainability, research and design realization. As BDP Quadrangle’s Innovation Director, Michelle provides the strategic direction required to embed innovation across the firm as well as overseeing the firm’s global Innovation Hub, a mechanism for crowdsourcing global ideation.
